Welcome to the Mourne Mountain Marathon website

The next Mourne Mountain Marathon will be 21st – 22nd September 2019

The Mourne Mountain Marathon is Ireland’s only two day endurance and navigation event held each year in the beautiful mountains of Mourne in Northern Ireland.  It is run entirely on a voluntary and non-profit basis by a team with many years experience of organising and competing in this type of event.

Like most traditional mountain marathons the Mourne MM is a great event for people of all ages and speeds – from tweed clad hill walkers to Teflon coated mountain runners. The only requirements are basic mountain skills, fitness and a love of the hills. Enter here.

Final Instructions Published

The Final Instructions have been published here on our website. Please read them carefully even if you have done the event before.

Also, we are pleased to announce the winners of our final Early Entries draw. Dave Braidley, Claire Dowens, Joanne McCandless, Gerry Mahon and Brendan O’Leary joined the 8 previous winners of maps and other items generously donated by Harvey Maps and Jackson Sports. Congratualtions to them and thank you to our sponsors.

Event HQ Revealed

This year we are pleased to be returning to  Shimna Intergrated College in Newcastle for our event centre. This venue was a great success in the past and we were well looked after by the college operations team. There is plenty of good accommodation in the area and camping is available in the college grounds on the Friday night. There is free parking  for competitors although we would encourage people to car share or use public transport where possible. Don’t forget we also have a free minibus run from Belfast on Friday evening and back to Belfast on Sunday afternoon.

Last Early Entry Draw

There are just 2 weeks left to get your entry in for the 3rd and final Early Birds draw. This July Drawmonth we have four more Harvey XT25 Mourne Maps plus one superb Montane Fang Zip T-Shirt  (worth £40)  – or the Montane Snap  for the female fit.  The T-shirt comes in a range of sizes and colours so this prize will be issued directly by our generous sponsors Jackson Sports. All the unlucky entries from May & June will now roll forward and join the July entries in the final draw at the end of this month. The terms of the draw are the same as for May – see below.

June draw winners were Haydn Leaker, Denise O’Doherty, Jon Sheperd, Conrad Hendrick and Sarah McKay.

May Draw Winners

CongratulJune Drawations to Ronan McBride, Paul O’Hare and Alwyn McLean – winners in our May Early Birds Draw. All the unlucky entries from May will now roll forward and join the June entries in the draw at the end of this month. This time we will have four of the XT25 Mourne Maps from Harvey’s and a fantastic pair of  Montane Via Trail Gaiters donated by Jackson Sports (worth £25). The terms of the draw are the same as last month – see below.

Early Birds Draw  – May,  June & July

To encourage early entries we will be raffling a number of great prizes each month (May, June & July) to everyone* who has entered to date.

For May’s draw we have one fanstastic Petzl Tikkina headtorch (worth £20) provided by our long-standing sponsors Jackson Sports. In addition we will be raffling two  XT25 Mourne Maps (worth £13.50) donated by the lovely people at HarveyEntry Prizes May19s Mapping. The XT series of maps are double sided, fully waterproof, lightweight and very tough whilst retaining the same clarity and detail of their standard Superwalker series maps. They are ideal for fast navigational events such as mountain marathons. If you don’t yet own a Harvey Mourne Map, the XT25 version is definitely the one to get.

We will draw 3 Teams at random from the entries up to Friday 31st May and send out a prize to each winning team. The first team drawn gets the choice of the headtorch or the map. We will do the same at the end of June and July (for a different prize set) for all entries to that date.  So the really early entries get 3 chances to win!!

*N.B. Only one prize per team across the 3 draws. If a winning team subsequently withdraws from the event the  £RRP price of the prize will be deducted from any entry fee refund so we can buy a replacement to pass to the next team in the draw. Alternatively the prize may be returned to us if unused. Winners’ names will be published each month.

2019 Entries Open 12th May

Spring is upon us and the MMM team have sprung into life  – scouring the Mournes for interesting places to camp and boggy places to run courses through. We have a bit of work to do to update the website and get SI Entries set up so we expect to open up shop in mid May.
